All that's left is for Roddy B. to suit up
In one breath, Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle on Monday tried again to temper expectations of Roddy Beaubois' actual return date. In the next breath he seemed to let the cat out of the bag with an unintentional ode to Valentine's Day.
"Look, we're all excited," Carlisle said regarding Beaubois' impending return. "But, we have another two days before we get to the alter with this."
Two days would be Wednesday, the next time the Mavs are in action at home against the Sacramento Kings. Then they play at the Phoenix Suns, the final game before All-Star Weekend.
"I’m not sure if it’s [Beaubois' return] pre-All-Star break or after All-Star break, but he had a good day today," Carlisle said. "If he has another good day tomorrow then it’s conceivable he could play [Wednesday]."
On Monday, Beaubois successfully completed his second team practice, but it was his first full-on session with lengthy stretches of five-on-five scrimmages where he could test all aspects of his long-recovering left foot. Afterward, Beaubois said he wants to play, obviously, as soon as possible, but he offered no assurances that he will make his season debut in either of this week's games.
He did say he is encouraged after the two practices and believes his speed and quickness are very close to pre-injury levels.
"If I'm ready on Wednesday, if I feel good, I might play on Wednesday," Beaubois said. "Or, if not, my goal is really to at least after the All-Star break just be ready to play. Like I said, after practice, day after day I will be able to see where I am."
