Blockbuster trade opened playing time for Brandon Bass, Ryan Anderson

The transaction meant that Bass, 25, was assured of starting at power forward as Lewis' replacement. Anderson, 22, then inherited minutes as Bass' back-up --- or even playing alongside Bass at times.

They have blossomed in their new roles since the deal after finally earning Van Gundy's trust.

"I think one of the things that happened with the trade is that it really was a vote of confidence from us toward Brandon and Ryan," coach Stan Van Gundy said.

"(It said) that Brandon and Ryan can really handle that position. Both benefit in terms of bigger roles and more consistent minutes."

"Sometimes, it's really hard (finding playing time), especially on a team as good as this," Anderson said. "But it's also amazing how fast things can change."
