Bobcats on clock for Cunningham decision
The Charlotte Bobcats have until Friday to decide whether to match the offer sheet the Memphis Grizzlies signed with restricted free agent Dante Cunningham. Bobcats player-personnel chief Rod Higgins received the offer sheet late Tuesday afternoon. He said the team would wait at least until today to decide what to do. The offer sheet is a three-year contract, with the final season at the team's option. Cunningham would be paid $2 million this season - about double the Bobcats' qualifying offer to restrict his free-agency - and slightly more in the second and third seasons. Matching Memphis' offer would obligate the Bobcats to a little more than $4 million in guarantees. Cunningham came to Charlotte from Portland last February, as part of the package for forward Gerald Wallace. In 22 games with the Bobcats, playing mostly small forward, he averaged nine points, four rebounds and 51 percent shooting from the field.
