Darrell Arthur's improvement is making Grizzlies bench strong

Hollins said the team's improved depth -- made possible in part by the additions of Shane Battier and Leon Powe -- bodes well for the Griz being formidable in the postseason.

"I like the fact that we have a more versatile, solid team," Hollins said. "It's a group that I can manipulate and there's a good chance it will work versus whatever I do coming off the bench will be just a stop- gap."

Reserve forward Darrell Arthur has arguably been the player that's most responsible for bolstering the bench. The Griz are 20-10 this season when Arthur scores in double figures. He's averaging 11.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 48-percent shooting in the past 19 games, which is significant production given the Griz have played without Rudy Gay.

"Darrell, after missing most of last season (due to injury), has been a huge addition," Hollins said. "It's like adding a new player. Anytime a young player rises up it's always a positive. It's like adding another player."
