Devin Harris: Rumors were a distraction
Devin Harris will tell you he never let being a major part of the Carmelo Anthony trade talks affect him on the court, but his play and his coach say differently.
"There was a period where he wasn't locked in," Nets coach Avery Johnson said after practice Tuesday. "It's just human nature, no matter what we said. You don't know whether to pack your bags and whether you're taking Continental, Delta or American."
Harris still could change teams, but lately he's been locked in on the court.
"He's really doing a good job of running the team," Johnson said.
"I was never not here mentally," Harris said. "I may not have been playing well. Sometimes you can't control that. [Was I] distracted? Sometimes, yes."
This is the closest Harris has come to admitting that the nearly completed three-team trade with Denver and Detroit had bothered him.
"A little bit," Harris said. "A little bit. I'll give you that much."
But he's tired of questions about how much the situation weighed on his mind.
"How many times are you going to ask me?" Harris said. "What about me? Guys are making shots. Everybody's getting to the right spot. We're swinging the ball and we're shooting a higher percentage.
"I'm not making any different passes than I was 10 games ago. Guys are just making those shots."
