Ekpe Udoh gets his first significant amount of playing time
No. 6 overall pick Ekpe Udoh on Monday night got the most minutes of his career, and he responded with his most productive outing since being deemed healthy Dec. 10.
Udoh had five points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks in 25 energetic minutes. Get this sequence: He had a one-handed putback dunk at one end, outraced everyone to the other end and blocked a Courtney Lee layup attempt.
"We're anxious to see him on the floor and anxious to see what he can do," general manager Larry Riley said. "It's still going to be gradual, because he's learning by the seat of his pants almost, but I think we'll start seeing him on a much more regular basis."
"The biggest thing with Ekpe is that he hasn't played games," coach Keith Smart said. "I'm not expecting anything super. Anything he does is a plus as he tries to develop his identity as a basketball player in the NBA.
"He might turn out to be Superman, but that doesn't happen that often."
