Forward Leon Powe pays visit to Grizzlies
Free-agent Leon Powe visited Memphis on Wednesday in a move that could put him closer to signing with the Grizzlies for the rest of the season.
Powe, a 6-8 power forward, met with Griz general manager Chris Wallace and will soon decide on a destination, according to his agent, Aaron Goodwin.
"He liked it," Goodwin said of his client's visit. "He knows that he can come in and play the style they want to play. He looked at the situation. The reason he moved on going there (to visit) before anywhere else was because of Chris. He feels good about it."
Powe earned $915,852 with Cleveland this season before negotiating a buyout last week. He would only cost Memphis a prorated minimum salary.
"We obviously have interest. He was a significant player a couple of years ago on a championship team," Wallace said. "We don't have anything done. We're considering things. We're looking the field over."
The Griz are also tossing around the idea of bringing back 6-8 forward Josh Davis, who performed well for them in training camp. Davis is playing in Europe.
In another development, Griz rookie guard Xavier Henry will not have surgery on his sore right knee after receiving a second opinion in New York earlier this week. Henry will spend the next four weeks going through a rehabilitation program and will then be re-evaluated.
