Grizzlies in Vegas; news/notes from workouts
It looks as though Tony Allen couldn't sleep much this morning. The Grizzlies guard was awake early this morning (roughly 5 a.m.) sending out messages on his Twitter account: @aa000G9.
Allen confirmed that he is headed to Las Vegas today to participate in the Impact Competitive Training Series with more than 60 NBA players.
2 day i go 2 vegas i couldnt sleep joe b" about 2 work me out and sponsor a tourney for pros > lets go aint no way around it
Griz second-round pick Josh Selby is also listed on a roster. Impact has forward Zach Randolph scheduled to appear. But Randolph didn't appear on any rosters as of today. I just talked to an Impact official who told me the league still hopes to stream the games on the internet. It's a work in progress.
(...)Allen is said to have changed his shooting mechanics. He's all but eliminated catapulting the ball from behind his ear in favor of a more conventional shooting motion. An observer told me Allen routinely connects on 6-8 out of every 10 mid-range shots.
Forward Darrell Arthur did attend the workouts but couldn't play much after spraining an ankle early on the first day.
Guard Xavier Henry stood out the most. Henry apparently is building on the progress I wrote about on June 26. He was extremely confident, shot the ball very well and even talked a lot of trash.
