Inactivity contributes to Gilbert Arenas’ injuries

Gilbert Arenas’ left knee is technically healthy, but the effects of his prior injuries are still affecting him every day.

Occasionally the arthritis in his knee makes it feel tight, which limits his quickness and jumping ability. And recently he’s been bothered by tightness in his left calf, a condition related to muscles that were weakened while suffering from his previous knee troubles.

“I sit so much; it’s all I do,” Arenas said. “I do a lot of sitting. I hang out around the house just sitting. … So, the days I don’t really stretch it, and then I start running on it, it just kills back here.”

Arenas was talking about his days off at home.

In the summer he was playing pickup ball every day, and he said the knee felt great and he was running and jumping like he used to. But the inconsistency of the regular season — where there will be a days off interspersed between games and practices — has his knee feeling tight and loose at different times.

Arenas is hoping he can figure it all out soon. He, nor the Magic, want him missing any time in the playoffs.
