Josh Childress fracures finger in game versus Warriros and Suns make two more cuts
The Suns still have "baffled" coach Alvin Gentry with more poor 3-point shooting that looks nothing like the Suns' shooting the past six seasons. And they received more bad news, with forward Josh Childress saying he had suffered a fracture in the tip of his right index finger. It hit the rim when he was fouled by Golden State rookie Jeff Adrien.
"It hurts," said Childress, who won't play Friday. "I'm not going to lie about it. The finger is something you can try to play through."
Phoenix did not shoot well overall Tuesday - 37.8 percent from the field - but the 3-point accuracy is a glaring issue. With 5-for-24 3-point shooting Tuesday, the Suns have shot 24.7 percent on 3s in seven preseason games. Channing Frye had a streak of 13 consecutive missed 3s before he made his final two attempts Tuesday.
"The positive is that we won tonight without shooting well," Jared Dudley said. "I think it's going to take a little bit of time. It's not something that, 'Hey, it's going to click.' The next game, we could shoot 50 percent. It's going to be more of a learning process with this team for how we can get shots. (Departed forward) Amar'e (Stoudemire) is not rolling here anymore."
After the game, the Suns released guard Zabian Dowdell and power forward Dwayne Jones, meaning rookies Matt Janning and Garret Siler likely will make the 14-man team unless Erick Dampier is signed for the big-man spot.
