Larry Hughes, DeAndre Liggins likely will begin season on Magic roster

Veteran Larry Hughes and rookie DeAndre Liggins almost certainly will be on the Orlando Magic's season-opening roster.

Stan Van Gundy said after Thursday's practice that he doesn't expect any roster moves to be made before the Magic begin their regular season Christmas night in Oklahoma City.

The team already waived point guard Gabe Pruitt, reducing its roster to 15 players.

All NBA contracts become fully guaranteed Feb. 10, but it is possible the Magic agreed to earlier dates for Hughes and Liggins when their contracts were finalized before training camp.

Hughes is a shooting guard who can play point guard or small forward if necessary, and Magic coaches like his experience. Liggins is a shooting guard who is a tenacious defender and can put the ball on the floor.

Teams are permitted to carry 15 players on their roster.

This season, Feb. 6 is the last day a team is allowed to have 13 players on its active list for each game, a league spokesman said.

After Feb. 6, a team may still dress 13 players for a game, but only 12 would be allowed to play.
