Nene and his future with the Nuggets
The most complicated situation may turn out to be starting center Nene. He has one year left on what was a six-year, $60 million contract. That year is worth around $12 million. But Nene also has an early-termination option that he can use to become an unrestricted free agent.
There is a better-than-average chance he'll choose to exercise his option to test the open market in search of a multiyear contract. The market probably will be very good to him — at least as good as it can be after the new collective bargaining agreement is finalized.
Still, Nene stands to make at least $10 million per year on a new deal. He'd like that to be in Denver with the Nuggets. He likes the organization, his wife is from Colorado — and soon a newborn baby boy too — and he's comfortable here. But the business of basketball isn't always accommodating.
