Nets' Kris Humphries says new CBA must be reached before he considers free agency
The 6-9 rebounding machine and fiance of reality TV star Kim Kardashian talked about how much fun he had visiting the kids in the hospital, but shied away from questions about basketball and the future. He can't talk about his free agency until the lockout is settled, he said.
"We have the lockout to deal with; who knows if that’s going to go into effect or not," he said. "I was a part of the meetings (as one of the Nets' player representatives) and, so we’ll have to see what happens with that before free agency or anything like that. I think that that has to be taken care of, so there’s not a whole lot to say about free agency, because you know, there’s the first step first."
Humphries has said in the past he hopes to stay with the Nets, but having switched agents from Dan Fegan to Marc Cornstein, he clearly was not going to say any such thing today.
"Um, you know, not to really talk about that a ton, but I, uh — we have to take care of the lockout first, and from there, my agent’s going to handle the process and you know, lay everything out," he said when asked if he still wished to return to the Nets. "So it’s kind of real — it’s a little bit difficult to think about that right now. I’m still kind of in a different mode, in terms of being here for the kids. And that’s really my focus. I don’t want to take away from that. I think that, from this, everyone needs to raise awareness and try to support the great things that they’re doing at this children’s hospital. Use this platform for that, and not really for other things."
