The New Orleans Hornets waived backup forward Joe Alexander, who had been on the inactive list for all seven games, league sources confirmed Saturday.
Alexander competed for the backup power forward spot in training camp, but was beaten out by Jason Smith, who has emerged as one of the team’s top reserves.
Alexander, 6 feet 8, 230 pounds was the eighth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and averaged 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds as a rookie.
