Re-signing Humphries a top priority, Vujacic's preference is to re-sign and Lopez not a good recruiter

Among the top priorities, according to coach Avery Johnson, is to re-sign Most Improved Player candidate Kris Humphries.

“Very important. High priority,” Johnson said. “Yeah. Just high priority. But again, it takes two to tango and hopefully Kris wants to be a part of our team and the fabric of what we’re doing just as much as we want him.”

Humphries reiterated his desire to stay with the Nets, but money is money and Humphries worked his tail off to get to this point.

“I know you guys want to say (I want) this amount of money,” he said. “I want to be here and I think in the end we’ll be able to work out something where both sides are comfortable.

“Really I don’t know it’s hard to say at the end of the day what player doesn’t want to make as much money as possible. Everyone does. Everyone in their regular job does. It’s not different in basketball but a lot of things will affect what they number is so we’ll have to wait and see.”

How about Sasha Vujacic, whose contract has also expired?

“My personal choice would be definitely to come back,” Vujacic said. “Everybody accepted me here, from Day One, from (PR director Gary Sussman) to everybody in our organization. All jokes aside, everybody was great and I felt like at home, especially our fans they were tremendous even though our record wasn’t the best.

“I dont know (if I’d come on a discount). The business part, I’m not getting involved in. I’m going to leave that to my agent (Rob Pelinka) to do whatever. Hopefully we have NBA next year. Hopefully there’s not going to be any lockout, and hopefully well continue to build something.”
