Trail Blazers acquire Charlotte forward Gerald Wallace
The man nicknamed “Crash” is headed to the Trail Blazers.
Gerald Wallace, a former All-Star and All-Defensive team player, has been traded by Charlotte to the Blazers for veteran center Joel Przybilla, second-year forward Dante Cunningham and two future first-round picks.
The move, finalized right before Thursday’s noon deadline, was first reported by Yahoo! Sports and CBS Sports. NBA.com was the first to report Cunningham’s involvement.
CBS Sports is reporting that Blazers center Sean Marks is also in the deal.
Blazers general manager Rich Cho would not comment, but the team called a 5 p.m. press conference at the Rose Garden.
Wallace, 27, is a former All-Star and former All-Defensive team member who played three seasons under Bernie Bickerstaff, who is now a Blazers assistant.
“First of all, he is a great young man,’’ Bickerstaff said. “He laces them up, every night.’’
Bickerstaff said Wallace will be a great fit for the Blazers because he can play both power forward and small forward.
“Fours couldn’t guard him, and three’s were too small for him,’’ Bickerstaff said. “And you know he is going to rebound for you, block shots, and he is going to compete. He has that assassin mentality.’’
