Uncertainty dogs free agent Hayes

hough he said the Rockets "felt like family after the trade deadline," guard Kevin Martin told general manager Daryl Morey that the uncertainty about possible roster moves early in the season contributed to the team's slow start this season.

"I was telling Daryl, going into the season 90 percent of the people on the team felt like a trade asset," Martin said. "Having everybody looking over their shoulder, that's not going to get you anywhere. Hopefully, next year is a little different at the beginning, we get off to the right start and play like we did after the All-Star break."

Center Chuck Hayes, the only player in the rotation who will be a free agent, reiterated his desire to remain with the Rockets, but admitted he is "scared" about his future.

"I'm scared because I don't know," Hayes said. "I hate not knowing.

"If I had my choice, if it was up to me, I will be here. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I love it here, the fans, the people."

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said the team wants to sign Hayes.
