West is raring to go

Though Delonte West has yet to make his season debut because of a 10-game suspension, he has spent more time than Celtics teammates playing basketball beneath the team’s championship banners.

While the team has played away from home six times in its first 10 games, West has been working out at the team’s practice facility, which houses most of the Celtics’ original title banners.

And West put in an extra 45 minutes after yesterday’s practice in preparation for his return, likely tomorrow night against the Wizards.

“I’m just ready to go, help this team out, the best way I can,’’ West said. “If that’s [tomorrow night] or not, doesn’t matter. I’m just happy to have the suspension behind me. If my number is called, I’ve prepared myself well to go out there and try to help out the best I can. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We’ve got a very good team, we’re playing well.’’

The Celtics (8-2) might not have guard Marquis Daniels, who missed practice because of a “family issue,’’ according to coach Doc Rivers. Which means West might be needed right away.

“Doc’s a great coach, he knows what this team needs,’’ West said. “If it doesn’t require for me to jump in, if he sticks with the guys we have, that’s fine, too.

“You want to be out there, definitely, start of the season, when chemistry is being built. I think the worst part of this whole suspension thing is, as far as missing locker room time — pregame speeches, taking the floor with the team — you really miss a lot. That’s where a lot of chemistry is built.

“It’s been a long two weeks for me. I still have to earn my playing time. Guys have earned the right to be out there. I’m just coming in here and showing the guys I’m committed to this and, hopefully, they trust me enough to have me out there.’’

“This is where I need to be, right here in this gym, putting my time in,’’ he said. “The guys put their work in, they deserve four days in Miami — this is where I need to be, right here.’’

West’s workout partner was rookie guard Avery Bradley, who is expected to return from an ankle injury this week.

“Avery’s a talented young man, he’s big and strong for a guard,’’ West said. “He’s physical, athletic, and the biggest thing is he has heart, he plays defense. Unfortunately, we have one of those teams where we have a long pecking order for opportunity. Given the right opportunity on a team where he can go out there and play 40 minutes like some rookies do, he’d be showing you his talents. I think it’s good to get an opportunity to learn from these guys we have here.’
