Wilkins to be re-upped

The Hawks will re-sign guard/forward Damien Wilkins to a second 10-day contract, coach Larry Drew said after the game. Wilkins, the nephew of Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins, was originally signed Dec. 3 to fill in for Johnson during his recovery from elbow surgery. Wilkins was then waived Jan. 5 in advance of the Jan. 10 deadline at which point his contract would have been guaranteed for the remainder of the season if he were on the roster.

Wilkins has provided defensive energy and is now playing minutes in the absence of forward Marvin Williams, who is out with a back injury. After the second 10-day contract, the Hawks will either have to re-sign Wilkins for the rest of the season or release him. Drew said the team hasn't made that decision yet.
